There is also a small hole drilled where the cartridge is attached, so that 'blow backs' will be prevented, in the case where a cylinder is punctured, but unscrewed without first using the contents.

This blow back hole will release any left over pressure before the cylinder is completely unscrewed, since it would otherwise become a dangerous projectile.
